A wonderful Zen saying goes like this:
“Unformed people delight in the gaudy
and in novelty.
Cooked people delight in the ordinary.”
I would not dare to call myself a cooked person
in the Zen Buddhist sense of that expression.
So many photographers are much more fired than I.
But yesterday I walked out on a wooden pier
over a small lake in central Florida
where I was visiting my weakening, aging father.
I stood alone on the wooden planks,
looking down at the dark water.
Elliptical ripples,
reflected clouds,
peeping sun.
Nothing more.
Delightful.
